BLOUNT COUNTY RECREATION

Whatever your fancy - Blount County has it!

Enjoy Saturday afternoon hiking in the mountains followed by dinner and a movie... or take on the "sport" of shopping at the Foothills Mall,  Turkey Creek is just a short drive, or the nearby outlet malls in Pigeon Forge.

The Cities of Maryville and Alcoa built and manage an extensive trail system linking 3 parks, and providing miles of paved and lighted trails perfect for walkers, joggers, bikers, roller-bladders and more. Much of the trail borders a rambling creek or is shaded by mature trees. Outdoor play equipment and plenty of benches for resting or feeding the ducks dot the trail system. Public tennis and basketball courts are also available.

If fishing is your sport, you've come to the right place!  Public access to TVA managed Fort Loudon Lake is plentiful, or you can fish in the Little River in Southeastern Blount County. Fort Loudon Lake is also popular with boaters, skiers, swimmers and more. Townsend, the "quiet side of the "Smokies" offers passage into Cades Cove and the Great Smoky Mountains. Additionally, the Foothills Parkway offers breathtaking panoramic views of Maryville. The uncompleted portions of the Parkway are closed to vehicles and are ideal for bicycling and hiking, offering equally spectacular views.

Nearby Knoxville boasts a zoo, art museum, symphony orchestra, two theater companies, the 1982 World's Fair Park, Tennessee Smokies Baseball,  and is home to the University of Tennessee Volunteers.
